What is it?
The Hapeville Worry Rock is a six foot by three foot slab of solid granite sourced from a local quarry. It was placed in the Depot Park (now Depot Plaza) in December of 1937 and officially dedicated in January of 1938.
Why is it there?
The Worry Rock was devised as a promotional scheme by Courtland Gilbert, the editor of The Fulton County Review, a local newspaper. Gilbert and Brown Tyler, the owner of the Review, thought the rock would be a great way to bring attention to Hapeville.
What's so special about it?
The Worry Rock is beloved by longtime locals because it has remained a stalwart presence in the center of town for over eighty years. The rock represents stability. It provides local residents a sense of hope. It reminds us that throughout periods of both boom and bust, Hapeville will not only survive, it will thrive.
